It is good news at the park

It is good news at the Linear park at the moment, as we have been chosen by the Culcheth branch of Sainsbury’s
to be their local charity of the year, and we are looking forward to working with them for the benefit of the linear
park. They have already given us the opportunity to do two hours bag packing and we were able to raise £200
plus in that time! Thank you to all who let us pack your bag for your kind generosity.

We have also had our concert by ‘Black Thursday’ which was a roaring success. The room was donated free of
charge [thanks, Village Club] and the band also gave their time for free. We have raised another £500 plus
through this. A big, big thank you to everybody who bought tickets and supported us. We also raised another £200
plus in May at the community day, again thanks to the generosity of the people who supported our stall.

We are looking for more volunteers to help in any way they can with our fund raising efforts, as it generally falls
onto the shoulders of the same ten people and their families to do most of the volunteering, We are only able to
do so much, and really would appreciate some help from others that we could call on when we needed an hour
or two of time in some way.

You might be wondering what we spend the money on? As you know last year we ditched the first part of the park,
making it much easier to walk, run and cycle on the bottom path. This time, after consultation with local people
using the park [now you know why Jack is jumping out of bushes to try to talk to you], we know that a lot of peope
would like us to pay attention to the top path which is wearing away, and to make it more user friendly to
everybody, including disabled users and people who have prams. This way, more and more people can use the
park to help them keep healthy and enjoy the fresh air and the greenery.

Enough about money. It is something the committee thinks about a lot, but it is not everything. We also like to get
the social side of life going, and with this in mind we arranged a picnic in the park. And then we realised we had
picked the afternoon of the world cup final…… not a problem you might say….. but unfortunately the lads on the
committee did not agree, so this has been put off until September. Many thanks to Chris who has taken some
wonderful pictures and has allowed us to feature them on our web.  Some of the winter snow ones are really
spectacular and we are thinking of making some Christmas Cards from them. It would be good to have some
cards to send around the world showing the beauty of the area we live in. You could also [please!] send us some
of the pictures you have taken in the park, as we would like to display them on the site. If so contact us through the
'Contact' section of this website.

The park has looked wonderful throughout the spring, with glorious snowdrops, daffodils , bluebells and then the
glory of the hawthorn and cow parsley; their whiteness always reminding me of weddings. I try not to say too
much about the beauty of the park because I realise that each visitor has their own thoughts and ideas about
what they enjoy, but sometimes I cannot help it. For the bird lovers we have had a lot of buzzard sightings recently,
and that has also been wonderful. One of my favourite things, though, has to be the swifts playing and swooping
around my dog, encouraging him to chase them in all directions.  It makes me laugh out loud, and that can only
be a good thing. However, if you do see a mad middle aged woman standing in a field laughing hysterically, there
is no need to panic……
